Top SC counties for harvest in 2009 included Anderson exhibiting harvest rates in excess of 15 deer per square mile. Very few areas in the United States consistently yield comparable harvest figures.
So far this year there have been 110 boating incidents, 12 boating incident-related fatalities and 42 total drownings on Georgia waters. Wildlife Resources Division Conservation Rangers also have issued a total of 122 boating under the influence citations. Many accidents and fatalities can be avoided by reviewing and following safety tips over the course of the holiday weekend festivities.
The Labor Day holiday weekend is considered the last blast of summer and one of the busiest weekends of the year on state waters. Boaters who choose to participate in the free inspections may do so at designated landings where the inspections are offered. It only takes a few minutes and will make your day safer and more enjoyable on the water.
One case involves an alligator gar recently identified by a SCDNR biologist. The alligator gar was reportedly taken by a bow fisherman on Lake Wateree, measured 4 feet in length and weighed in at 27 pounds.
